J&S McKee Ltd is proud to have partnered with the GRAHAM Group on the delivery of the multi-award winning Nelson Place student accommodation development in Belfast. This large-scale project consists of 744 rooms across a 245,000 sq ft site, strategically located beside the new University of Ulster Campus and directly adjacent to the Westlink.
We were appointed to deliver a complete supply-and-fix substructure package, which included:
- Full site clearance and bulk excavations
- Construction of a temporary working platform for piling operations and full piling attendance
- Installation of reinforced concrete pile caps, ground beams, lift core bases, and tower crane bases
- Completion of all underground drainage and Builders Work in Connection (BWIC)
- Delivery of a comprehensive substructure waterproofing system
- Construction of the reinforced concrete ground floor slab
Thanks to our dedicated and highly skilled team, all works were delivered on time, to specification, and to a high-quality finish, supporting the smooth progression of this landmark city centre development.

The finished project, Nelson Place opened its doors to students in September 2024, complete with running track on the roof!
This state of the art building is also boasts some sustainability tools too-
- 2 blue roofs with attenuation tanks to control the rate at which rainwater run-off enters the drainage systems
- a living green roof to enhance ecological value
- 99% of construction waste was diverted from landfill
All enabling this project to have been the winner of a Green Apple Award 2024, achieve an EPC 'A' Rating and achieved a BREEAM Very Good.
Nelson Place has also been awarded "Commercial Development of the Year" in the Belfast Telegraph Property Awards 2024.
